It’s called the Farm, Home and Wildlife Expo, but probably just because the event’s organizers had to stop somewhere with the name.

They could have gone on and on with descriptive words and commas because the expo features something for everyone.

The Expo will include booths for food tasting, cooking demonstrations, lawn care, irrigation, rainwater harvesting, fire ant control, peach tree pruning, home blueberry production, safe shotgun practices and more.

I’ve never been to an Expo but plan to attend this year. I’m not sure how they cover all these topics in one day.

They’ll try, anyway, from noon until 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Chilton Research and Extension Center.

With our national economy struggling, there’s been a national trend toward becoming more self-reliant, growing one’s own food and learning how accomplish household tasks that one would have paid someone else to do in the past.

The Expo sounds great not just for the generation that has grown up gardening and now just needs a few tips but also for the generation that has grown up relying on frozen pizzas for sustenance but are now trying to live a healthier and more cost efficient lifestyle.

And don’t forget the kids. There will be games and attractions for them, including an old-fashioned water pump and a “peach float.”

People of all ages should have fun and learn much at the Expo.
