Recent high school graduates Taylor Hughes of Chilton County and Blake Lawley of Isabella were the county’s only two players in the North-South All-star Football Game last Friday in Huntsville.

Both players had outstanding games, according to coaches and reports from the game. Media members even voted Hughes the South’s Most Valuable Player after one of his passes accounted for his team’s sole touchdown.

Hughes, Lawley and their teammates came up just a little short Friday, losing to the North, 14-7, but both players, their families and the community have much to be proud of.

Outside their accolades on the field, the two players were voted offensive and defensive captains by their fellow players.

The honor is an impression one. Almost 40 players from dozens of high schools between here and Mobile made the All-star roster.

For both captains to be chosen from Chilton County says much about the men’s character and leadership abilities.

Congrats again, Taylor and Blake.
