Tom Brown, who took over organizing the Lions Club’s Peach Festival after longtime chair Richard Davis was sidelined this year due to health concerns, was named the club’s member of the year Thursday.

“His service this year was remarkable,” Lion Hollis Jackson said when presenting Brown with the award.

Brown was quick to give credit to other club members.

“This (award) belongs to the club, and I appreciate everyone’s help,” he said.

Several other awards were given during the Ladies Night banquet at Alabama Power Company’s Conference Center in Clanton.

Donny Martin was recognized for reaching an impressive milestone – 50 years of club membership.

Several Lions were also honored for having perfect attendance at club meetings this year. They were: Ray Price, Tommy Patterson, Dan Mims, Donny Martin, Robert Lane, H.C. Johnson, Steve Forrest, Britt Culpepper, Thomas Carter and Tom Brown.

Outgoing President Steve Forrest and other 2009-2010 officers were recognized before this year’s officers were installed.

Lions officers for 2010-2011 are: President Tony Hughes, First Vice President Britt Culpepper, Second Vice President Wayne Caton, Third Vice President Gary Tate, Secretary Shane Headley, Treasurer Ray Price, Tail Twister Cecil Williams and Membership Chairman Bob Stone. Donny Martin, Tom Brown, H.C. Johnson and Hollis Jackson will serve on the club’s board of directors.
