Dave Hayden won the Republican nomination for Chilton County superintendent of education, defeating Tommy Glasscock in Tuesday’s runoff.

Hayden accounted for 4,340 votes to Glasscock’s 3,502, not counting provisional ballots.

“We’re thrilled here, me and my family,” Hayden said after hearing the results. “Thanks to everyone who got out and voted. We appreciate and are humbled by all of our supporters. We’re looking forward to the fall election. We’d like to have everyone’s support again. Everything I said still goes.”

Hayden said he was unsure about how the results would come out and thought the race would be close.

While Glasscock was disappointed with the results, he said he is eager to get back to work as director of the LeCroy Career Technical Center.

“Certainly we’re a little disappointed,” Glasscock said. “It just is what it is. Apparently my opponent got his people out. We have a lot of respect for him, and he worked really hard.

“I’m just going to go back and thank the good Lord for the job that I’ve got. I’m going to go back and make LeCroy the best I can make it with the support of the people who had confidence in me being their superintendent.”

Hayden will face off against Democratic candidate Jason Griffin and Independent candidate Louise Pitts.

In last month’s initial primary election. Glasscock received 44 percent of the vote with 3,326 total votes while Hayden finished at 37 percent with 2,846 marks.
