Bradley Byrne spent part of Thursday in Clanton, meeting residents and encouraging them to give Byrne their vote.

Clanton was the 29th stop on Byrne’s bus tour that, so far, has focused on the northern part of the state.

“We have had tremendous feedback from this trip,” said Byrne, who will face Robert Bentley on July 13 in a runoff for the Republican nomination for governor. “Many people just want to know who I am and what I stand for—there’s been so much misinformation out there.

“We wanted to get outside the big cities. I consider every part of the state of Alabama to be important.”

The bus parked behind Clanton City Hall shortly before noon. Byrne greeted pedestrians on his way to Main Street Cafe for lunch.

One of those passers-by was Stephanie Gibson of Clanton, who said she was impressed by Byrne but was still skeptical of politicians.

“If he does what he says he’s going to do, he’ll do a good job,” Gibson said.

Byrne spent time after lunch visiting business owners in downtown Clanton and expressing the importance of voting on July 13.

“We have an unusual situation with the runoff in that Democratic leaders in Montgomery are actively pushing Democrats to vote in the Republican runoff,” Byrne said. “Obviously, the Democratic bosses don’t want me (to win the run-off).

“So, I want to tell all the Republicans in Alabama to get out and vote. We’ll be fine in our race if Republicans get out and vote.”
