Thought for the week: “My Jesus”

“No matter what the future holds or what tomorrow brings… I know I’m safe within the arms of Jesus my King. Every day upon this earth, I feel His spirit move… I know He lives within my heart to comfort and to soothe. And when I stumble, as I will, I’ll pick myself up high… for in my weakness, He is strong, in darkness, He is light. Gentle Jesus, hear me now and dry these tears I weep. Take the burdens that I bear and heal me as I sleep. And as the morning sun appears, I’ll give my thanks so true. Another day has come again; My Jesus, I love You.”

Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Maplesville will celebrate its 119th Church Anniversary and Homecoming on Sunday, July 4 at 11 a. m. The Rev. L. C. Young, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Maplesville, will be the guest speaker. The Rev. Donald L. Nix is pastor. All churches are invited.

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise service of prayer, scripture and songs. Songs sung included, “Pass Me Not,” “Glory Hallelujah” and “I’ll Fly Away.” The scripture was read by Charles Arrington with prayer by Pastor Dukes, Kevin Nunn and Freddy Arrington.

The morning message was given by Associate Minister Kevin Nunn. He asked the question, “Are you in a position to receive God’s blessings?” Faith without works is dead. Get an understanding in all you’re getting; whatever you go through, count it all as joy. Live the word; don’t just hear it — give your life to Jesus. Don’t judge people; God is the judge. Just have faith and trust him. Faith is the foundation of the Christian — you are saved by faith, so walk and live by it. Does your walk measure up with your talk? Don’t just talk faith; live it.

There is such a thing as demonic faith. Demons have faith because they believe in the power of God. Demons are touched by emotions, but only one kind of faith can save you. True faith requires a change of heart and mind — trust and live for him.
