Three Clanton youth baseball teams made the most of their home field advantage and advanced to the next round of their respective playoffs.

The city’s AA (7- and 8-year-old) and O-Zone (11- and 12-year-old) teams on Tuesday won their district tournaments and thus earned berths in state tournaments.

The AAA (9- and 10-year-old) team won its sub-district tournament and will play in a district tournament at either Monroe County or Sweet Water.

All three tournaments were played at Clanton City Park.

The youngest two teams made easy work of their opposition.

The AA team defeated Valley Grande, 16-0, for the championship.

The whole roster played well in the tournament. In three games, Tucker Price went 7-for-9, Dalton Patterson 7-for-9, Cade Davidson 8-for-9, Cameron Baker 6-for-9, Russ Rhodes 6-for-9, Drew Henson 4-for-9, Jacob Marino 6-for-9, Preston Smith 3-for-7, Lawson Patterson 3-for-8, David Easterling 3-for-7, Bryson Mims 4-for-8 and Kendrick Blackmon 6-for-7.

The AAA team defeated Chiltauga, 10-0, on Tuesday.

Three Clanton pitchers combined for the shutout. Seth Harris and Cody Herron pitched two innings each, and T. Grant Henderson pitched one inning.

B. Grant Henderson was 2-for-3 with two triples at the plate.

The O-Zone team fell to Selma, 3-2, but because it was the host team’s first loss, the two teams played again. Clanton won that game, 12-1, to advance.

Clanton recorded only two hits in the first game against Selma, but then the bats woke up.

Colby Ramsey singled in the first inning, and a Corbin Bice home run made it 2-0.

Dalton Green, on a Brady Thornton sacrifice, and Boyd Price, on a wild pitch, scored in the second inning.

Clanton scored five runs in the third inning, four on a Bailey Sellers grand slam. Tolliver Gilliland also scored in the inning, on a Koty Watts single.

Gilliland knocked home Bailey Sellers and Hunter Bennett with a double in the fifth inning to conclude the scoring.

Bennett earned the win on the mound, holding Selma to one unearned run on four hits in four innings while striking out six.

Sellers closed the game out with a scoreless fifth inning, allowing only one hit while striking out the side.

Hitting leaders for the series were Ramsey (6-for-10), Bice (5-for-10) and Sellers (5-for-10).

The Clanton O-Zone team will play in its Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament on July 16 in Eufaula. The AA team’s state tournament is scheduled for July 9 in Enterprise.
