A Clanton man who was shot four times Memorial Day weekend now faces charges of pulling the trigger on someone else.

Jermaine Agee, 27, faces charges of attempted murder and robbery in connection with a shooting that took place Friday, June 18.

Agee and the victim, Burandous Franklin of Jemison, were riding together in a car on Second Avenue South about midnight when the shots were fired, according to Clanton Police Detective Freddie Mayfield.

Franklin jumped out of the car and was found along the side of Second Avenue near the intersection with 15th Street. He had at least two gunshot wounds to the chest, according to Mayfield.

“My understanding was this was just an argument,” Mayfield said.

Agee was arrested after the car was found at a home on Fourth Avenue South. He was arrested Friday on charges of having a stolen weapon, having a firearm without a permit and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The attempted murder and robbery first-degree charges were added Monday. As of Tuesday, Agee was in the Chilton County Jail under bonds totaling $300,000.

As of Monday, Franklin was still hospitalized at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Authorities didn’t have a more recent update on his condition late Thursday.

Agee was allegedly shot four times by Andrew David May on Saturday, May 29 around 9:30 p.m. May, of Opelika, surrendered to Clanton Police on Tuesday, June 1.

Agee was found outside on the 1100th block of Fourth Avenue South and was airlifted to UAB in critical condition.
