Artists of all ages were honored Wednesday for their entries in the Roy Wood Peach Festival Art Show. Winning artists were honored during a special program at Peoples Southern Bank.

First place, second place, third place and honorable mention awards were given in two categories: a junior division for those under 18 and a senior division for all other artists.

Hannah Sanford won the junior division for her watercolor painting. The young artist placed third in the contest in 2009.

The judge said of Sanford’s painting: “The watercolor application is fresh and confident and the varieties of transparent and opaque paint are cleverly distributed. Very nice composition, too.”

Other junior division winners were Rachel Mims, second place; Ashley Combs, third place; and Ashlin Hilyer, honorable mention.

Scarlett Teel won the senior division with her painting, “The Warrior.” The work features an old peach tree.

“It’s given up the ghost. It’s done what it was supposed to do,” said Teel of her creation. “It’s broken, bent and going away.”

The judge said Teel’s painting had “beautiful paint marks and very good, subtle, atmospheric perspective color. It is a gorgeous painting.”

Other senior division winners include Carolyn Maddox, second place; Danny Foshee, third place; and Wesley Cunningham, honorable mention.
