Clanton Police are searching for several suspects wanted for robbing a convenience store Sunday night.

Lucky’s Food Mart on Seventh Street North across from Sonic was robbed just before 9 p.m. by at least four suspects.

A store clerk told investigators he was stocking cigarettes and preparing to close for the night when a man entered the store carrying a handgun. The armed man forced the clerk into the back of the store, while another suspect entered the building.

The man with the gun was described as 6-feet tall and wore as green mask and dark, long-sleeved shirt and gloves. The second suspect was described as 5-feet, 3-inches tall and wore a black mask, white shirt and gloves.

The clerk believes at least two other people entered the store because of how many voices he heard, according to Police Chief Brian Stilwell. The clerk only saw the first two robbers.

The suspects left in a dark-colored SUV traveling north on U.S. 31 toward Lomax and Thorsby. They made off with cash, several cartons of cigarettes, ephedrine, the cash register and the video surveillance system.

Police detectives are following up leads from other cameras in the area and witness statements.

“While we have a lot to go on in this case, I encourage anyone who might have seen anything to give us a call,” said Stilwell. “You don’t know the smallest detail might help us close this robber and put these guys behind bars.”

Anyone who was in the area and might have seen anything should call Clanton Detective Freddie Mayfield at 755-1194. Calls can remain anonymous.
