Joseph Lawrence Young, 80, of Midfield went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2010.
To family, he was known as “Lawrence,” to friends, “Joe.” Lawrence was a resident of Clanton since 1993. He retired from U.S. Steel after 35 years and served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Lawrence was a member of New Cedron Baptist Church of Billingsley. Lawrence was the son of the late James Albert Young and Clara Walker Young. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn M. Young.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Wynona Young, of 53 years, which was recently celebrated this past June 8, 2010. He is also survived by four sons, Clifford (Carol), Steve (Beverly), Brian and Doug (Michelle); grandchildren, Bill Owens, Dreama Kay Knox, Michael McClure and Patrick Young; great-grandchild, Dreanna Knox; and siblings, Virginia Walton, Claire Young and Cheryl (Frank) White.
Funeral services will be at Valhalla Funeral Home on Friday, June 18 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lynn Roe officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 17 from 5-8 p.m.
