Thorsby’s first movie in the park May 28 went on despite the threatening storm that loomed overhead.
A sea of lawn chairs and blankets spread out across the park as families gathered to spend some quality time with each other and their community.
The movie goers enjoyed “Monsters vs. Aliens,” the first of five movies to be presented by the Thorsby Fire Department and the Town of Thorsby.
A breeze cooled off what was an extremely hot and humid afternoon, making the evening perfect for being outside in the park.
More than one hundred people turned out to enjoy the movie despite the threat of a storm.
Indeed, many more would probably have joined them if it wasn’t for that storm.
I, for one, thought the movie must have been canceled but went by to check anyway.
Happily, other families had done the same. Laughter could be heard throughout the park as the monsters triumphed over the aliens.
I stopped by the fire department booth. They reported that at least 20 families had already signed up for their free smoke detectors.
The fire fighters had secured a grant that allowed them to offer smoke detectors to families free of charge.
The only stipulation is that the fire department actually has to install the detectors in the home. Each home can have a smoke detector for each bedroom and one for each floor of the home. I signed up.
The Thorsby Power Lifting team was on hand with sno cones for sale. The Thorsby Diner also brought hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes and corn dogs for movie goers to enjoy.
