Jemison’s basketball team on Monday played its 11th game in four days, and it showed.

The Panthers held a 19-16 lead over Marbury—in their second game of a “play date” exhibition event at their home court—but faded and allowed the guests to leave with a 47-36 win.

“We played hard, got after it—we just didn’t have our legs to make shots,” Jemison coach Stacy McGehee said.

Chilton County, meanwhile, played in its first two practice games of the summer, at Jemison.

In the second game, the Tigers fell to Montgomery Catholic, 45-38.

Deon Timmons coached the team on an interim basis, he said, while a permanent replacement for former coach Donnie Hand can be found.

“I thought we did well,” Timmons said. “You can tell we’re out of basketball shape. These are the first games we’ve played all summer, and the humidity is getting to everybody.”

Monday’s games for Jemison came on the heels of a team camp over the weekend at Birmingham-Southern, where the Panthers went 7-2.

McGehee said the team is already better than it was at this point last season.

“We have made leaps and bounds this summer,” he said.
