The only thing missing from the annual Peach Run might be a little Chilton County hospitality—in the form of spectators lining the route.

The event, which on June 19 will be held for the seventh time, already boasts impressive participation (75-100 people run each year), coveted prizes ($100 to each of four winners), and a route through scenic downtown Clanton.

Peach Run organizer Lori Patterson said she would like to see more local residents turn out along the route to support the runners.

“That’s the one thing I feel like we’re missing, when you go to other places and see fans out cheering on the runners,” Patterson said. “The majority of our runners are from out of town, and they want to experience Chilton County while they are here.”

The Peach Run, which is hosted by Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness, includes both a 5K and a 10K race.

The route for both races turns left out of the Cornerstone parking lot and goes straight down Highway 145, or Lay Dam Road, to the old Adair school.

Patterson said anywhere along 145 would be a good spot to watch the race, or residents can catch the start and end of the race at Cornerstone.

Both races begin at 7 a.m.

Registration costs $30. All those who pre-register are guaranteed to receive a T-shirt, while those who wait until the day of the event to register are not guaranteed a shirt.
