Chance for policy participation

It seems like everyone has something to say about how local schools are run—and rightly so because they are publicly funded.

But, other than electing a school superintendent, rarely does the public have a chance to affect policy adopted by the Board of Education. Chilton County residents have such an opportunity now.

As required by the state, the county board has developed an anti-bullying policy for review by the public. The policy can be found at the board office, at the board’s website (www.chilton.k12.al.us) and at clantonadvertiser.com, at the bottom of a story about the proposed policy.

We encourage all county residents, regardless of whether you have a child in school, to review the proposal and offer your input.

As these last few weeks of school have cruelly reminded us, bullying is an issue we must take seriously.
