L.H. Bates

L.H. “Shorty” Bates, 85, of Clanton died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton.
He was born Saturday, Dec. 13, 1924, in Chilton County, son of the late Dee Bates and the late Estelle Caton Bates.
He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a command Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, a faithful member of Glad Tidings Church of God, and a charter member of the Chilton County Cattleman Association.
Surviving are his daughter, Pat Smitherman of Clanton; two sons, Buddy (Brenda) Bates of Clanton and Gary (Judy) Bates of Clanton; three grandsons, Zack (Traci) Bates of Clanton, Kevin “Red Dog” Smitherman of Clanton and Patrick Bates of Clanton; and sister, Audrey L. “Dutch” Baker.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at Glad Tidings Church of God with the Rev. W. L. Adams officiating.
