After being postponed due to the threat of severe weather, Chilton County Junior Miss is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chilton County High School auditorium.

The competition, originally scheduled for April 24, features local upcoming high school seniors. This year, six young women will compete for up to $5,400 in scholarship money.

“We have a very talented, well-rounded group of girls this year, which is what makes a Junior Miss,” said Denise Eiland, who has stepped in to direct the event in place of Gwen Davis for this year.

This year’s contestants are: Kendra Dawson, Thorsby High School; Kayte Culpepper, Thorsby High School; Kristen Robbins, Chilton Christian Academy; Anna Davenport, Jemison High School; Alex Green, Chilton County High School; and Jordan Powell, Chilton County High School.

Last year’s winner was Jana Davenport of Jemison.

A panel of out-of-town judges will judge each contestant in the areas of self-expression, talent, scholastics, physical fitness and an interview.

The Chilton County Junior Miss will advance to the state level to be held in January 2011 at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery.

Eiland said the postponement added some stress to the competition, but the contestants are ready to go. After a full week of practice, they have had time to regroup and refocus.

Admission for Chilton County Junior Miss is $5. Tickets will be available at the door.
