New lights are coming to Interstate 65, Exit 212 in Clanton.

The Clanton City Council approved a measure Monday that would allow the state to install the lighting, while the city would be responsible for its upkeep and paying the power bill.

“They are going to put up everything — lights, poles … the whole nine yards,” said Mayor Billy Joe Driver.

There is no set date when installation might begin. The city expects to receive a set of plans before work begins, which hasn’t happened yet.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

Approved a resolution to enter an agreement with the state to improve the traffic signal at U.S. 31 and Alabama highways 22 and 145.

Granted a beer and wine license to Lucky Food Mart and Clearview Grocery. The businesses currently have these licenses, but they are now under new owners.

Filled several part-time and full-time positions in the city’s sanitation department.
