Chilton County residents will have a special chance to help feed the hungry Saturday, while paying their power bill or mailing a late Mother’s Day card.

Local postal carriers will be picking up canned food Saturday, May 8. The drive is an annual event; last year 6,000 pounds of food were donated.

“People are real good to give,” said Postmaster Melanie Majors.

Non-perishable food, such as dry or canned goods, may be left in mailboxes for carriers to pick up.

All food will be kept local and donated to Chilton County Emergency Assistance.

More than a billon pounds of food have been collected since the carriers started the drive around 15 years ago, Majors said.
