A head-on collision Thursday evening on County Road 42 resulted in one fatality and six other people with injuries, according to rescue personnel.

The wreck occurred on 42 near the intersection with County Road 173, about two miles outside the Jemison city limits, at about 7:10 p.m.

Wanda Underwood, 52, of Calera was killed, according to State Troopers spokeswoman Doris Teague. She drove a 1998 Dodge Caravan.

Teague said troopers’ preliminary report is that seatbelts were not used in the Caravan.

All patients were transported to UAB hospital, three via helicopter.

Information on surviving victims’ condition was not immediately available.

The wreck is under investigation by State Troopers.
