Twenty local athletes on Friday qualified for their respective state track and field meets next week.

Two Isabella athletes made the cut. Blake Lawley finished second in Class 2A, Section 1 in the shot put with a distance of 40’6.5”.

Austin Haigler recorded a 36’6” in the event and finished sixth, the cutoff for qualifying, but needed a minimum of 37’ to advance.

Sarah Graham ran the 1,600-meters in 6:08.77, good enough for second and a state berth.

Isabella will return to Smiths Station on Saturday, but other local teams had their meets cut short to one day because of the threat of severe weather on Saturday.

Alex Smith was fifth in the 800-meters for Maplesville at the Class 1A, Section 1 meet at Montgomery Academy.

Anthony Johnson qualified in the long jump, the 300-meter hurdles and the 400-meter sprint.

Cameron Morrow won the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump and was third in the 100-meter dash and second in the 110-meter hurdles, qualifying for state in all four events.

Demetrius Parker and Keith Shields finished in the top 15 in their events but did not qualify for state.

No less than 15 Thorsby athletes qualified for state at the Class 2A, Section 2 meet at Paul Bryant.

Sade’ Archie won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, and Marcus Bray won the long jump.

Megan Sanchez was second in the javelin, and Dillian Simmons was second in both the 400-meter and the 200-meter dashes.

Other Thorsby qualifiers were: Kevin Brasher (100-meter dash), David Roldan (1,600-meter run), Philip Hicks (200-meter dash), Sam Cifuentes (100-meter and 300-meter hurdles), Sam Gasson (800-meter run), Cameron Castleberry (1,600-meter run), and the 4×400-meter relay team of Brady Barrigus, Austin Pickett, Zac Hensley and Cain Castleberry.

Chilton County was scheduled to compete in the Class 5A, Section 2 meet on Friday, but results were not available at press time.
