Maplesville offers amnesty program

Maplesville activated an amnesty program Monday for all delinquent fines owed to the town. Mayor Kurt Wallace said the town currently has approximately 700 warrants issued, some dating back to 1999.

If the individuals will come in and pay 25 percent of what they owe, the town will recall the warrant and set them up with a payment plan to help clean their record. The program will last for one month, from April 19 to May 21.

“There are a lot of people out there that are having to dodge the police in hopes they don’t get stopped and picked up on an old warrant,” Wallace said. “This is going to be their one time opportunity to get these old fines cleaned up so they can relax and stop worrying about getting stopped.”

To find out what they owe, they can call Cindy Brown at the Town Hall, (334) 366-4211.

Wallace said the program might allow for a little extra incentive for residents.

“This may be a great way to spend some of the income tax return they may be receiving,” he said.
