Absentee ballots now available

Absentee ballots for the upcoming June Primary Election are now available in the Chilton County Circuit Clerk’s office located in the courthouse.

Registered voters may cast an absentee ballot either by mail or in person by completing an application by Thursday, May 27 and meeting one of the following requirements:

The person will be out of the county on Election Day.

The person has a physical illness or infirmity that will prevent attendance at the polls.

The person works a shift which has at least 10 hours which coincide with the hours polls are open at his or her regular polling place.

The person is enrolled as a student outside the county of his or her residence and will be unable to attend the polls.

The person is a member of, spouse or dependant of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or is similarly qualified to vote absentee pursuant to the Federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, 42 USC., 1973ff.

This includes members of the Alabama National Guard, the U.S. Naval Reserves, U.S. Air Force Reserves and U.S. Army Reserve on active duty or active duty training. Those who fall into this category may fill out a federal postcard application form as provided under the Federal Voting Assistance Act.

Also, any registered voter who requires emergency medical treatment within five days of an election may apply for an emergency absentee ballot no later than noon on the day of the election. A certified physician must describe and certify the circumstances on a special form, which must be attached to the application.

A voter whose employer requires them to be out of the county on Election Day under unforeseen circumstances may also apply for an emergency absentee ballot no later than the close of business day on Monday, May 31.

Completed absentee applications must provide the residence where the voter is registered to vote. Those who need to update their polling place should contact the Chilton County Board of Registrars at 755-3820 or by mail at P.O. Box 640, Clanton, AL 35046.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27. Applications are available online at sis.state.al.us.

Completed applications must be turned in by the voter in person or sent via U.S. Mail. The last day applications may be submitted in person is May 28. Only one application may be mailed per envelope.
