Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Siran Stacy lit up the Helen Parrish Activity Center at First Methodist Church Monday night with vigor not unlike what fans saw during his playing days.

Speaking to a room of 150 listeners invited by the University of Alabama National Alumni Association Chilton County Chapter, Stacy drew a standing ovation.

Stacy gave a touching, motivational speech on specific biblical scripture, highlighting a message of “Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required” to emphasize high expectations leading to hard work.

“His challenge to the crowd was to demand excellence of one’s self and to live a lifestyle that portrays excellence in all that we do, especially in our family lives,” Chilton County chapter president Kendall Williams said.

Ronnie Carmichael, who helped organize the event, said the speech was very touching.

“He went through some bad times, but he gave everybody encouragement,” Carmichael said.

Williams said what struck him most about Stacy’s presence was how personable and humble he was. The UA football star and speaker made it a priority to stick around after his speech to sign autographs, take pictures and answer any individual questions people had.

Stacy’s family was involved in a tragic car wreck in which six people were killed, including his wife and four of his children. One of his daughters survived the wreck. He now incorporates his personal loss and triumph over grief into his speeches to inspire those who attend.

The Chilton County chapter was also awarded the Division-A chapter of the year honor by the UA Alumni Association. It will officially accept this weekend at the Bryant Conference Center during the institution’s Alumni Weekend celebration.
