Chilton County had a massive fireworks show for Senior Day—it’s just their pyrotechnics came at the plate, not after the game.

The Tigers beat Carver, 11-9, in an area match up on Friday.

The show started early when Tanner Powell knocked a homerun during CCHS’s first at bat to take the early lead, 1-0.

After a quiet second, the third inning became a hitting bonanza. The Wolverines scored four runs, most coming off a 3-run homerun by Jamian Burlow.

Still, senior Ben Handley was solid on the mound, earning nine strikeouts in his 5 2/3 innings.

Chilton County responded in the bottom of the inning with the game’s third home run, as Adam Minor’s blast also scored Cameron Cummings. A double by Kipp Moore also scored Trevor Thomas to tie the game, 4-4.

RBIs by Hunter Hurst and Powell put CCHS up, 6-4. The Tigers would hold the lead for the rest of the contest.

The home team added three more runs in the fourth with a 3-run triple by Moore, who was thrown out at home just short of an inside-the-park homerun.

In the fifth, Craig Headley brought in Powell, as CCHS doubled up Carver, 10-5.

Cummings tagged up to score after a T.J. Henley pop out. The run was Chilton County’s last and put the score at 11-5.

But the Wolverines weren’t finished yet. The team scored three runs in the sixth inning and their last in the seventh to close the gap to 11-9, but it wasn’t enough.

Chilton County next faces Isabella and A.P. Brewer on Saturday, April 10, beginning at 10 a.m.
