Verbena on Wednesday won its second straight game, 17-14 at Autaugaville, but the Red Devils won’t be going to the playoffs even if they defeat area foe Maplesville on Friday.

Maplesville would still own a tiebreaker over Verbena because Maplesville defeated a common opponent from the same classification, Billingsley, twice, while Verbena split two games with the Bears.

That hasn’t stopped Verbena from playing well, though. The Devils held a five-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday and held on for the win.
