Billingsley High School jumped out to a 5-1 lead on Isabella High School after two innings before they finished them off in five innings in Chilton County softball action Tuesday afternoon.

Fans from both sides found the nearest shade behind home plate as the toasty April sun cooked the Isabella field and bleachers.

The Lady Bears headed into the doubleheader break with a 15-4 victory in the first game. They hammered four runs in the third inning to pad a large lead and pipe down any hopes of a Lady Mustang comeback.

Bridget Willis drove in a run in the third, as did Peyton Wallace, to push the BHS lead to 7-1.

Kim Lawrence then belted a 2-run single, scoring Willis and Keely Powell. Wallace also stole home on a wild pitch to give her team a 10-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.

Wallace picked right up where she left off, driving in Willis and Jordan Elizabeth Skinner on another single. Summer Gaither also pelted an RBI single, scoring Wallace.

Gaither added a heap of defense along with her RBI, scooping up several ground balls and striking out a few IHS batters.

Willis drove in Hannah Horton, and Powell singled home Mary Beth Walker to stretch the lead to 15-1 heading into the fifth inning.

The Lady Mustangs mounted as strong a comeback as they could with Dezaray Lodge smacking an RBI double and Ann Marie Murray driving in Lodge and Kaylynn Culp.

Cutting the deficit to 15-4, the Lady Mustangs nearly sparked a rally. But BHS pitcher Gaither closed the fifth to engage the 10-run rule and end it.

IHS starters Raelynn Liveoak (shoulder) and Amber Flanagan (ankle) sat with injuries.
