A Jemison woman died while in transport to Shelby Baptist Medical Center following a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 early Monday morning. A male driver, also from Jemison, was critically injured.

Mary Ann Snow Short, 65, was pronounced dead upon arrival to the Shelby Baptist Medical Center emergency room, officials confirmed. The victim’s identity was confirmed by Alabama State Troopers.

The driver, also 65 years of age, was transported to UAB via ambulance. The relationship of the driver to Short was not known.

According to Trooper reports, the vehicle, a 2006 Lincoln Towncar, left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned near the 215-mile marker on I-65 northbound shortly after midnight. The vehicle reportedly landed upright.

Union Grove and Gap of the Mountain fire departments were dispatched to the scene.

Short appeared to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, said Trooper spokeswoman Doris Teague.

No charges are pending in the case, said a spokesperson for the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.
