Jemison makes park upgrades

Improvements to Jemison City Park are being done just in time for residents to get out and enjoy the sunshine that comes with spring.

Workers last week finished installing $60,000 worth of playground equipment designed for children ages 2-12.

“The playground equipment that was there had been there for a while,” said Sam Reed, the city councilman that oversees parks and recreation. “[The new equipment] looks good.”

The city received a grant to pay for half the cost of the playground upgrade, which was provided by GameTime Equipment.

Park visitors will also notice the construction of a concession and restroom facility just inside the park entrance.

The building is closer to the tennis courts than the park’s other restrooms.

The council has already voted to have the tennis courts repaved.

City employees have also been doing some general landscaping.

“That was something that was needed, just something that would make the park more attractive,” Reed said. “I’m excited about it; it’s really shaping up.”
