The Thorsby Rebels didn’t feel the Vincent Yellow Jackets’ sting Friday, as the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs with a 10-0 victory.
Perhaps the highlight of the afternoon was sophomore Jason Price’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. It was Price’s first-ever varsity home run.
“Thanks for working me, Barry,” Price said after the game to Barry Baker of Cornerstone Fitness & Wellness, who helped the team train during the offseason.
Friday’s win was a prime example of how that hard work is paying off, according to Thorsby coach Ab Argent.
“I think our team’s playing with a little more confidence. I’m proud of the way they’re playing now,” Argent said, complimenting junior Cody Carroll’s pitching.
Carroll struck out eight of 19 Vincent batters, giving up three hits and two walks, one of which was intentional. The final play of the game was a strikeout in the fifth inning with the bases loaded.
Price hit a two-run double to right-center in the first inning. Then, Wesley Smitherman and Drew Minor drove home two more Rebel runs.
Blake Elkins doubled in the second, sending Jace Maddox to the plate, and Matt Morgan and Evan Bryan each had RBI doubles in the third.
Brett Frizzell, Collin Spradley and Brantley McClendon were the only Yellow Jackets to reach base on hits.
Next, the 21-4 Rebels will face Fultondale on Monday at 4 p.m. in Thorsby.
