Thunder Cars rumble on clear day

Drivers from all over the state came out to the Central Alabama Motor Speedway on March 27 to take advantage of a special offer.

Drivers were offered the “Track Managers Special” for the Buddha’s Screen Printing Thunder Cars of a $100 bonus to the feature winner. Two heat events of the Thunder Cars would set the field for the evening feature event.

Starting on the pole position was William Smith, No. 92 of Sandy Ridge, and front row outside was Josh Bean, No. 8 of Maplesville.

As the green flag waved in the air starting the feature event, Bean immediately passed Smith on the first lap, and it was clean air through the entire event for Bean. Jeff Chumley, No. 10 of Gadsden broke the rear end of his car on the first lap, sending him to the pits.

Smith let Bean know that he was on his bumper in an effort to pressure Bean-with no success.

Scott Swanson, No. 89 of Valley Grand, drove hard to take over the second-place spot from Smith. Smith tried numerous times but could never maneuver around Swanson to take the second-place spot back.

Swanson would try taking Bean in the turns either at the top of the track and at the bottom of the track. After the 12-lap feature event, Bean took the $100 Track Managers Bonus Bucks along with the first-place winnings.

Second was Swanson, and third went to Smith.

Mike Fields, No. 0 of Calera, took home the first-place winnings in the Crate Late Model/Sportsman; Brian Scurlock, No. 00 of Selma, won the Hobby; Greg Wilkins No. 01 won the Street Stocks; Wesley Boothe No. 87 of Montevallo, won the Super Pony feature event; and Lisa Woods No. 18 of Calera, took home the first-place winnings of the Buzz Car/Pure Pony division.

Racing Actions returns to Central Alabama Motor Speedway off Hwy 22 just outside of Clanton on Saturday, April 3, with the start of the 2010 points season.
