Registration for the 2010 Peach Pageants is well underway, and contestants this year will have a little more to compete for.

Prizes in the Junior Miss, Young Miss and Little Miss categories have doubled since last year.

“We figured that would help us get more contestants,” said Clanton Lions Club member Tom Brown.

One hundred and twenty girls participated last year, and Brown said, “We hope we can get at least 120—maybe a little more.”

Junior Miss Peach, Young Miss Peach and Little Miss Peach this year stand to win a $1,000 savings bond, and their first alternates will be given a $600 bond. Those amounts are twice as much as last year.

Miss Peach will be awarded $2,000 scholarship, and her first alternate will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The orientation session for the pageants will be held at 1:30 p.m. on May 2 at Clanton First United Methodist Church. At that time, contestants will need to bring all required paperwork to the mandatory meeting.

Applications are available at The Clanton Advertiser, Chilton County News, Brenda’s Formal Wear and all county schools.

“This is a great way to promote the peach industry, which is one of the biggest industries in Chilton County,” Brown said.

Also, this year’s Peach T-shirts are still available at ALFA for $12 each, Brown said.
