The first ever West Chilton Spring Festival will be held this Saturday just off Alabama Highway 191 near Maplesville.

The festival is a free, community-wide event featuring a slew of useful and fun activities for all ages. There will also be music, entertainment and free food.

Just look for the large, yellow and white tent near the 2-mile marker off Alabama Highway 191. All the fun will begin at 10 a.m.

“Our goal is just to have a fun day. We just want to be there and meet and greet people in the community,” said coordinator Pat Conway.

Mulberry Baptist Church is sponsoring the festival as part of the Alabama Baptist GPS (God’s Plan for Sharing) program, which is part of a larger emphasis called Across Alabama.

Activities will include:

Fishing seminars by the state Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division

Free haircuts, manicures and facials by members of the LeCroy Career/Technical Center Cosmetology Department

A plant sale by Chilton County Master Gardeners, who will be on hand to answer questions about planting

K-9 demonstrations by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department

Wellness information from area fire departments

Blood pressure checks

Hotdog eating contest with a prize $25 gift certificate to Walmart

Free lunch from noon until 1 p.m., and free popcorn

Kids’ activities — inflatables, obstacle course, game booths, face painting, crafts, hayrides and a petting zoo

Youth activities — backyard fishing, archery, hatchet throwing, slingshots, Hot Wheel racing, National Guard presentations, bungee race and football throw

Music by Holy Destiny and performances by New Life Drama Team from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Music throughout the day by Eastridge Baptist Church Quartet of Chattanooga, Tenn.

“We have activities for every age group and gender,” Conway said.
