Isabella, Maplesville split doubleheader

Isabella and Maplesville split a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday, with host Isabella winning the first game, 7-3, and Maplesville squeaking out an 8-7 win in the second game.

Austin Haigler struck out 10 batters in seven innings to earn the win for Isabella (8-13) in Game 1.

Haigler was helped by Austin Anderson (2/3, 2B, BB, 3 R), Sawyer Cahalane (2/4) and Adam Jones (2/4, R).

Matt Hamner suffered the loss despite two-hit games from James Madsen and Bobby Smith.

One of Madsen’s hits was a triple, and Smith also had a walk.

The hosts took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning of Game 2, but Maplesville (5-6) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and survived a late Isabella rally.

Down by two runs, the Mustangs loaded the bases in their final turn at bat but could plate only one run.

Tyler Crumpton struck out nine in seven innings and earned the win.

Sean Haigler suffered the loss despite striking out nine in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and one run scored.

Madsen went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk and three runs scored.

Casey Atchison hit a solo home run.

Austin Haigler went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and a run scored. Brother Sean Haigler had a hit in his only at-bat and walked twice, scoring one run.

Cahalane was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
