Clanton resident Judy Benson was named along with nine other women as Women of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama. The organization held its 17th annual luncheon last Thursday at the Harbert Center.

The event honors women who have made special contributions to their community through civic, academic or professional involvement.

Benson is the human resources director for CRH-North America, Inc.

Girl Scouts director of communication and advocacy Hilary Perry said Benson was chosen for her numerous career and community accomplishments.

Those achievements include being a board member on the Alabama/German Partnership, which establishes working relationships between German-based companies in the state.

Benson is also involved in the local United Way, the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce as well as her church.

“Judy exemplifies leadership in her work and her community, which is the cornerstone of the Girl Scout program, building female leadership,” Perry said.

Benson is also a graduate of the Chilton Leadership and was named the 2008 Rotarian of the Year by the Chilton County Rotary.
