Rain ruins local sports contests

Tuesday’s rain ended many local sporting events early and caused the cancellation of others.

Maplesville held a 5-0 baseball lead over Dallas County when the game was stopped in the second inning.

Maplesville coach Derrick Littleton said he wasn’t sure whether the game would be made up.

Isabella baseball was down 7-1 in the sixth inning when that game was called.

Isabella coach Clay Shearer said the game would not be made up.

Chilton County’s and Thompson’s golf teams made it through about six holes at Montevallo Golf Club before Thompson conceded the match.

One day earlier, CCHS came in third place in the eight-team Calera Invitational tournament at Timberline.

Jemison came in sixth place, and the Panthers had their match Tuesday against Bibb County canceled. Coach Kelly Smitherman said no make-up date has been set.

CCHS’s Forrest Knight shot a 78 on 18 holes at the Calera Invitational, the second best round of the day.

Teammate Blake Jenkins shot an 80, and Jemison’s Garin Hayes had an 85.

Other canceled contests from Tuesday included Isabella at Verbena softball, Maplesville at Chilton County softball and Jemison at Chilton County tennis.

Make-up dates for any of those contests were not known at press time.
