Five people, including two children, were injured in an apparent head-on collision late Monday night on Highway 22 West.

Clanton Fire Department and Clanton Police responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a mid-size pickup truck and an SUV about 9:45 p.m. The wreck occurred just east of LeCroy Career/Technical Center.

Two young girls, both passengers in the SUV, were treated on the scene and transported to Children’s Hospital. One girl was airlifted via LifeSaver, and the other was transported by ambulance.

Three adults, one the driver of the truck, were taken to area hospitals via ambulance. The driver of the truck was later arrested and charged with DUI, and other charges are pending, according to Clanton Police.

One adult had to be extricated, Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said.

“None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening,” Driver said Tuesday, adding that the official status of the patients was unknown.

Both Angel Ambulance and RPS Ambulance responded to the call.
