Education is a good anti-drug

Law enforcement agencies work every day to remove illegal drugs from Chilton County streets. Unfortunately, sometimes drugs show up in the last place we would want them to be — in our schools.

It’s always troubling when a drug-related arrest involves teenagers, but it reminds us that drugs are a problem everywhere. No school, neighborhood or ethnic group is immune to them.

In a way, the war on drugs is an illusion. We are fooling ourselves if we believe that there is a school in our county that is not affected by drugs — whether the drugs are physically present, or there are students influenced and affected by them.

Every arrest made is a small victory for law enforcement and those of us who want a drug-free community, but there are many victories yet to be won. We thank the law enforcement agencies and school officials who work to educate our students about the dangers of destructive decisions.

We as parents and citizens can all do our part to make Chilton County a better place to live.
