The top two teams in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A boys basketball rankings are headed for a showdown Saturday afternoon when No. 2 Homewood hosts No. 1 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.

Hillcrest (23-3) held on to the top spot this week, despite a two-point loss last weekend to White Station of Memphis, Tenn. White Station is 17-3, ranked fourth in Tennessee’s Class AAA and has lost to two teams with a combined 40-1 record. Homewood (23-3) has a 12-game winning streak.

There are two new top-ranked teams this week.

In Class 4A, Andalusia (19-4) fell from first to seventh after two losses. With each of the top five teams in 4A losing, Dora (23-3) soared from sixth to first.

In Class 1A, Brantley dropped to second following a three-point loss Tuesday to Andalusia. R.A. Hubbard (22-2) swapped spots with Brantley.

Top-ranked Class 3A Sumter County (19-4) and 2A Pickens County (18-2) also suffered a loss, but it didn’t cost them their No. 1 perch. Sumter fell in overtime at traditional Class 2A power R.C. Hatch on Tuesday. Pickens lost by 10 at Class 6A Paul Bryant on Tuesday. Pickens’ other loss was to Hillcrest

The top two teams in the girls Class 6A poll also play on Saturday with top-ranked Hoover hosting second-ranked and defending class champion Bob Jones. Hoover’s only loss of the season came to California’s St. Mary’s in the T-Mobile Classic while Bob Jones fell 41-35 to Hoover on Nov. 30 for its lone loss.

In the girls poll, Class 4A UMS-Wright took over the top spot from Ramsay after the Bulldogs from Mobile won their ninth straight game and 15 of their last 16.
