Peach Jam gets soul

Mobile-based “The Tip Tops” will headline this summer’s Peach Jam Jubilee.

The band plays mostly music from the 1960s, Motown, and Rhythm and Blues.

Peach Jam committee chairwoman Janice Hull said committee members had heard the band play at festivals along the Gulf Coast and thought they would be a hit at the Peach Jam.

The festival will have two stages this year — one for the usual talent, including gospel singers and Chilton County High School’s “Blast from the Past,” and one for the headliners. The Tip Tops will start their two-hour show at 8 p.m., one hour earlier than the top act last year.

Hull said Peach Jam organizers are also looking for more entertainment for teenagers. She said the music and vendors appeal to the adults, while there are plenty of games and inflatables for children, but the teenage crowd needs something uniquely their own to enjoy.

“We are kind of thinking of an idea for them,” Hull said.

Now in its sixth year, the Peach Jam is organized by the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.

“I think it’s a great thing to have during Peach Week,” said Hull, a chamber member from Hull and Russell PC.

The festival will be the night of Friday, June 25 in downtown Clanton.

The first acts will begin around 4-5 p.m. The event is free to the public.
