Chilton Christian Academy’s boys and girls basketball teams came back from a holiday break with dramatic wins on Jan. 5.
The CCA girls were down by as many as 10 points in the first half but used a 12-1 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead and pull away from Flint Hill Christian (Bessemer) by a score of 43-35.
Senior shooting guard Summer Hall recorded a double-double for CCA with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore center Destiny Richards chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.
The boys game was even closer.
The Patriots trailed 34-29 going into the final period, but the defensive intensity of Austin Shropshire and Matthew Klein helped tie the game at 45 with 12 seconds left to play.
Klein stole the ball, was fouled, and hit one free throw for the lead, and the CCA defense kept the Flames from getting a good look at the basket.
Shropshire scored 10 points in the game, and Klein had 10.
