A roomful of cancer survivors and Relay for Life supporters packed the LeCroy Career/Tech conference center Tuesday night for the annual Relay for Life kickoff ceremonies.

Luminaries glowed in honor or in memory of those who have battled cancer, while the Voices of Hope choir sang an uplifting number. Several gave testimonies of their battle.

“My life has been touched by so many people who are survivors,” Elizabeth Byrd said, proceeding to thank people by name. “This is a race for a cure. For many people it’s a race for endurance or a race against time. For me, it’s a race to the finish.”

This year’s Relay event is scheduled for April 30.
