Anyone planning to make a trip to the Chilton County Courthouse will need to postpone their trip until Monday. Also, Chilton County Schools are closed for today, Friday, Jan. 8.

Chilton County Commission chairman Tim Mims said the commission agreed to close the courthouse Friday due to the possibility of inclement weather and unsafe roadways. At the time the decision was made, parts of the county were receiving snow flurries.

“A lot of ladies in the courthouse have children in school, and we thought roads were going to be in worse shape than they are,” Mims said.

Mims said he also spoke with Superintendent of Education Keith Moore, who made the decision to close schools Friday.

The courthouse will resume normal operating hours Monday. Until further notice, schools will also re-open Monday.
