A gas leak along County Road 51 has been cleared up, and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

About 20 houses were evacuated from Price Drive back toward Interstate 65 and County Road 89 because of a high-pressure leak, according to Clanton Fire Chief David Driver.

The evacuations started around 4 p.m.

People who didn’t have transportation from their homes were sheltered in two ambulances and a Chilton County Sheriff’s Office transport unit.
