A familiar voice will spread some good news through song at a high school near you just a few days into the New Year.

Gospel singer Ivan Parker will perform on January 16 at 6 p.m. at Chilton County High School. The performance continues a Southeastern stretch that includes appearances in Florida, Georgia, Mississppi and one in Albertville, Ala., tomorrow night.

A North Carolina native, Parker tours the United States each year spreading his ministry at several churches and arenas and has become a gospel staple in the Southeast as well as other parts of the country.

Parker, who began singing gospel when he was 2-years-old, is regularly featured on the notable Bill Gaither Homecoming Video and Concert Series. He has recorded 13 solo gospel albums and was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993.

He was voted Favorite Lead Vocalist by the readers of The Singing News Magazine six times and Favorite Male Vocalist nine times. The Southern Gospel Music Association honored him with the Soloist of the Year award in 1998, and The Singing News Fan Awards voted him “Soloist of the Year” from 2001 to 2004 and in 2006.

Parker will return to Alabama when he performs in Fort Payne on February 19.
