Brad Boswell’s 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining in Friday saved his team from a disappointing loss to St. Bernard in the last game of the Verbena Christmas Classic boys basketball tournament.
It was Boswell’s second game-winning 3 this season.
The Red Devils struggled all night to get something going against the Saints, who had already lost two previous games in the tournament, but won 54-51.
Verbena finished 2-1 in the tournament.
St. Bernard led at the end of the first quarter (12-7), the first half (25-21) and the third quarter (36-32), and had a 6-point advantage with about 2 minutes left to play.
But Brandon White tied the game at 51 with 36 seconds left, and then the Devils (8-5) forced a turnover on an inbounds play to set up Boswell’s shot.
White led the Devils with 17 points.

Catholic too much for Jemison
Montgomery-Catholic outclassed Jemison on Monday and became the only team to finish the Verbena Christmas Classic tournament unbeaten, at 3-0, with an 86-48 win.
The Knights (9-2) raced out to a 14-4 lead using a full-court pressure defense, and the Panthers (5-4) could never recover.
Jemison finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Scottie Hall led Jemison Monday with 18 points.
