Billingsley’s girls basketball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead against Autauga county rival Marbury and won, 53-37.

But the Bears (4-4) didn’t cruise to an easy victory.

Marbury (2-3) fought back to take a 22-21 lead on Kalen Morgan’s rebound and putback with about 3 minutes left to play in the second period.

But Billingsley’s Domonique Watkins answered with a long 2-pointer, stole the ball on Marbury’s next possession and passed it ahead to Lori Davis, who was fouled in the act of shooting.

The Bears held a 27-24 lead at halftime and would never trail again.

Davis scored 17 points, and Mary Beth Walker had 15 points.

Viola Tyus added 13 points.

Kimberly Marshall led Marbury with 11 points.
