Walk a unique opportunity

Area residents have an opportunity tonight to enjoy the Living Christmas Walk at Goose Pond Park in Clanton.

The walk is staged by West End Baptist Church here and attracts thousands of visitors every year. The Christmas Walk began Friday night, continued on Saturday night and will conclude Sunday night.

Scenes of the true story of Christmas are displayed all along the walking path at the park. Narrators guide small groups through the many scenes while they tell the story of Christ’s birth. The scenes are filled with people in period dress and with live animals that make the Christmas story come alive for everyone.

A project this size is the result of the hard work of many people in addition to the cast and narrators. I appreciate those who work hard to provide the Walk every year.

The walk is the church’s present to the community and is part of its celebration of the birth of Jesus. It has been part of the church’s ministry for more than a decade.

Many area churches bring van and bus loads of their members to the event every year.

There are plenty of parking spaces adjacent to the park, and free hot chocolate will be served.

The Christmas Walk will be open from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight.

The walk is a great way to begin celebrating the true reason for the Christmas season. And, it is free to all.
