With an 80-percent chance of rain forecasted for Saturday, Christmas parade organizers are keeping their fingers crossed for a break in the clouds.

The Thorsby Christmas Parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Jemison Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. Should rain dampen the planned festivities, both will be postponed until the following weekend.

“I don’t want anybody to get sick. I’m hoping that the rain will hold off until we get through,” Jemison City Council member Faye King said.

The rain date for Jemison’s parade will likely be next Saturday, Dec. 19. If the event is rained out, this will be confirmed next week.

Thorsby’s rain date will be Dec. 19 at 11 a.m., Mayor Dearl Hilyer confirmed.

Traditionally, several groups participate in both parades.

“Let’s hope that we don’t have to reschedule because everybody’s Christmas schedule is packed out,” Hilyer said.
