Chilton County’s girls basketball team on Tuesday defeated Jemison, 35-30, for its first win of the season, and of first-year coach Josey Shannon’s tenure.

CCHS (1-3) held a slight lead for almost the entire game and took command with a strong defensive performance in the third period.

The Tigers didn’t allow their hosts to convert a field goal until Kelsey Mims’ 10-footer with 3:41 left in the quarter made it 27-23 CCHS.

Keondra Looney answered with a 3-pointer to give the visitors a seven-point lead, and Jemison (1-4) could never threaten.

Tika Nunn had 13 rebounds for the Panthers, and Codi Mims had 10 rebounds.
